Palm Beach North Industry Insight: 2017 Great Give

As two of the county’s most venerable and widely respected organizations, both the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce and The Palm Beach Post take to heart their responsibility to better the community in any way it can.

Especially when it comes to helping out the less fortunate.

That’s why, once again, they’re both doing all they can to spread the word about the 2017 Great Give Palm Beach & Martin Counties.

“Working with the Great Give every year is so rewarding for us,” said Palm Beach Post Publisher Tim Burke. “It’s so gratifying to see the way the whole community pulls together – and that’s also why the event keeps growing in size and scope every year.”

And what is the Great Give?

It’s a 24-hour bonanza (12:01 a.m. of May 17 until midnight) of online philanthropy organized by United Way of Palm Beach County, Achieve, Nonprofits First and United Way of Martin County and featuring hundreds upon hundreds of local charitable organizations and non-profits.

Originally conceived in 2014, the first three Great Give initiatives raised more than $8 – and last year’s event alone raised some $3 million in donations for the 504 participating organizations. Final tallies showed that more than 10,000 separate donations were pledged in 2016 (way to go, Palm Beach and Martin Counties!).

Organizers expect the 2017 Great Give to exceed those numbers. But beyond the numbers, part of what makes the Great Give initiative so rewarding for all the businesses and individuals who participate is that every dollar raised will significantly and directly impact the lives of the people in our communities who are most in need.

Foster children.

The homeless.

Animal shelters.

Uninsured people with serious medical conditions.

And so many other folks for whom the funds raised via the Great Give will make a huge difference in the quality of their lives.

So, how can you participate?

Well, if you want to make a donation to a participating organization – the list of which you can find at greatgiveflorida.org – all you need is a valid credit card. You can make your donation either at the website or by calling 844-GIVE-DAY (844-448-3329). The minimum gift is $20 and all donations are tax-deductible.
