Sandie Foland, Baron Sign Manufacturing

Sandie was born in Mansfield, Ohio and transplanted at age 11 to Titusville, Florida - giving rise to Sandra (Sandie) growing up with Midwest ideas of becoming an entrepreneur. She attended Florida State University and then moved to San Francisco to join the marketing department of PIE Transportation, and later SeaTrain Container company where she met Jerry, a Navy veteran (husband of 45 years). Opportunity then took a turn to Europe with marriage and 12 years living in Genoa, Italy. Daughter Rachel was born in Italy in 1974. Rachel lives with husband Rob and 2-year old daughter in Peoria Illinois. In 1981, the opportunity to return to South Florida to form a company together as Baron Sign Manufacturing. After year-long research on type of business that would grow with the economy - even prior to computers and technology. Today, she celebrates 34 years as CEO, (February 17, 1983). Her daily task is to build on the name of Baron Sign Manufacturing to represent excellence in building and designing of custom interior, exterior and way finding signage for airports, hospitals, hotels, marinas, municipalities, retail and financial institutions.

It is no surprise to those who know Sandie that the company's strategic client relationships account for its 90% repeat business. What may surprise some is how Sandie, as a breast cancer and kidney cancer survivor drew on the strength of positive thinking to emerge stronger with more self confidence. That strength moved the business from $4.5M to a $9.5M company in 3 years after moving to the current facility in 2006.

During the recession, the business challenges meant cutting back to keep company solid to await change in business opportunities. In last 2 years the company is growing strong again. This year revenue is up 20% with a pipe line in projects for the next 12-18 months.

As a board member of the PBC Business Development Board, and past Chair, Sandie recognizes the efforts of Governor Scott in turning around business in Florida that is instrumental in small business growth, quoting "Let's get to Work" that was chanted during the campaign.

AND we are all doing that at BARON! Adding 8 new employees this year... to our team of skilled tradesmen.
